Virtual Open House Set for SR 9 Corridor Planning Study

Residents encouraged to view the planning study and provide onlinefeedback

The Forsyth County Department ofEngineering will host a virtual open house where residents can view interactivemaps and provide feedback on a planning study for State Route 9, from SR 306 toSR 369.

Residents can visit Forsythco.com/SR9Studyto participate in this virtual open house. Residents’ comments on the studymaterials will be accepted online through May 25.

“Each day as I travel home on SR 9, congestion and backups grow worse. It is imperative that we do everything we can to have this section of SR 9 identified as a road that should be incorporated into the regional transportation plan - as well as GDOT’s plan - and this study can help do that,” said District 4 Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills. “Your input and participation are essential to the success of this study.”

The SR 9Corridor Study is a joint project between Forsyth County and the AtlantaRegional Commission and the purpose of the study is to:

-       Proactivelyidentify the patterns and impacts of future growth to the corridor

-       Understandthe community’s vision for the corridor

-       Confirmthe need for the widening anticipated in the 2018 Transportation Plan that calledfor the need to widen this segment to four lanes

-       Establisha timeline for the implementation of short- and long-term improvements

“While this segment of SR 9 serves about 10,000 vehicles a day, projections into the future suggest that traffic and development growth willcontinue and result in over 25,000 vehicles a day,” said Forsyth CountyDirector of Engineering John Cunard. “We know there is a great deal of interest in this project andwe are glad to have this opportunity to hear from residents and provide themwith an update.”
