VIDEO: Forsyth County Announces Multiple Traffic Improvements Surrounding Bannister Road/SR 369

Forsyth County is moving forward with a series of roadway improvements in north Forsyth County, including a new bypass roadway connecting Dr Bramblett Road and Bannister Road as well as improvements to the intersections of SR 369 (Matt Hwy) and John Burruss, Bannister and Elmo roads.

In this video, District 1 Commissioner Kerry Hill shares details about the project, which is designed to relieve congestion, improve traffic flow and enhance safety in this area.

Once completed, a new roadway will begin at the current intersection of Dr Bramblett Road and SR 369, which will proceed north from Dr Bramblett Road, cross Elmo Road and extend to Bannister Road near the Matt Town Center entrance. This new roadway will provide drivers on Dr Bramblett and Elmo roads with an alternative route to access Bannister Road and SR 369. The new roadway will initially consist of two 12-foot lanes.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has also proposed an additional quick response project to extend the existing left-hand turn lane from SR 369 eastbound onto Bannister Road.

“This intersection has been a source of frustration for residents for quite some time and improving it has been a top priority for our district,” said District 1 Commissioner Kerry Hill. “By creating a new bypass and partnering with GDOT to extend the turn lane on Matt Highway, we’re taking the steps to reduce congestion, improve safety and keep traffic moving more efficiently.”

Forsyth County’s bypass roadway project will be funded through the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) IX program, with bond funding from SPLOST allowing the County to accelerate delivery of the project.

“Thanks to SPLOST funding, we’re able to move forward sooner and deliver relief to our residents faster,” said Hill.

Additional details and project timelines will be shared as they become available.
