A special election to fill the Forsyth County District 2 commission post will be held Tuesday, November 7. Rick Swope resigned from the post August 15, as a result of his recent acceptance of an executive position with E*TRADE, a position which strictly limits outside business activities including public service positions. The special election will fill Swope’s unexpired term, which runs through December 31, 2020. District 2 covers much of the southern portion of the county.

Qualifying will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30 and Thursday,  August 31, and from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, September 1. Qualifying will be held at the Voter Registrations and Elections Office located in Suite 200 of the Forsyth County Administration Building at 110 East Main Street in Cumming. The qualifying fee is $1,047.02.

The Board of Commissioners is made up of five members, each living in a specific district and elected by district to serve four-year terms. Only voters residing in District 2 will be eligible to vote in the special election. The voter registration deadline for the special election is Tuesday, October 10.

Advance Voting will be offered from Monday, October 16 through Friday, November 3, with hours and locations to be set at a later date.
