New Park Pass System, Other Enhancements Coming to Mary Alice Park
Forsyth County Parks & Recreation will introduce a new park pass and automated gate system at Mary Alice Park later this spring to enhance park operations, improve visitor flow and support parking enforcement efforts. The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners approved the Department of Parks & Recreation’s request to install the gated VenTek system during its meeting on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2026.
The new automated gate system will be installed at the park’s entry and exit points. Visitors will be required to present a payment receipt from one of the in-park kiosks or an access code for annual pass holders in order to exit the park. This upgraded system will streamline the payment process, improve traffic flow and assist with parking enforcement and overall park safety.
Visitors will also notice several park enhancements this season, including the addition of an outdoor shower near the restroom building, a new swim line, refreshed sand at the beach area, parking lot improvements and upgrades to picnic areas.
“Mary Alice Park is one of our most frequented lake parks, and we are continuously looking for new ways to enhance our visitors’ experiences,” said Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation Director Kirk Franz. “We look forward to another great summer at our Lake Lanier parks, which offer something for everyone to enjoy.”
In partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Forsyth County Parks & Recreation will continue to offer select free-entry days, during which day-use fees will be waived at Mary Alice Park. Free-entry dates in 2026 include:
- June 16 — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Birthday
- Sept. 26 — National Public Lands Day
- Nov. 11 — Veterans Day
Additional details regarding the new park pass system, including launch dates, will be announced in the coming weeks.
