Forsyth County Big Creek Greenway Reopened

Storm damage to the trail between mile 6.1 and 6.2 has been repaired

Forsyth County’s Big Creek Greenway is now fully operational. The boardwalk, between mile 6.1 and 6.2, sustained heavy damage during a storm on March 21 and had to be closed for repairs.

“The damaged section of the Greenway is very popular. We are appreciative for the understanding and patience of citizens who had to modify their route while repairs were being made,” said Parks & Recreation Director Jim Pryor.

At their March 29 Work Session, the Board of Commissioners authorized Steele & Associates to move forward with emergency repairs in the amount of $107,353 from the county’s Risk Management fund. Approximately 125 feet of boardwalk – including deck service, handrails and the first layer of structural support – was removed and replaced. With these necessary repairs complete, the full length of the Big Creek Greenway is open to the public.
