Those who purchased a house during 2015, were living there on January 1, 2016, consider this their primary legal residence and are not claiming homestead at any other location are eligible for lower property taxes by filing for Homestead Exemption. While you can file for Homestead Exemption year-round, you must file by Friday, April 1 to receive these benefits for 2016.
