At a Glance: May 21 General Primary and Nonpartisan General Election

What do you need to know about the upcoming election in Forsyth County? 

On May 21, a general primary (GP) and nonpartisan general election (GE) will be held. The GP is an open primary held for each political party to select their nominees for the office to be elected in the upcoming General Election, which will be held in November. For the nonpartisan GE, candidates will be listed on the ballot with no designation of party affiliation.  

Important dates for this election are below, with the first date being the upcoming voter registration deadline. April 22 is the deadline to register to vote or make changes to your registration record in order for those changes to be in effect for the May 21 election. 

  • Voter registration deadline: April 22 
  • Advance Voting in Person: April 29 through May 17 
  • Absentee Vote by Mail:  
    • Accepting applications through May 10
    • Mailing absentee ballots to those who request them: April 22 through May 10 
  • Election Day Voting in Person: May 21
