Buford Dam Road to be Closed Wednesday, September 16
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District Project Management Office at Lake Sidney Lanier advises the public that Buford Dam Road will be temporarily closed for roadway maintenance at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2020. It is expected that the work will be completed by 5 p.m. During this time, use Highway 20 as an alternate route. Parks with entrances inside the work area on Buford Dam Road will also be closed. Parks closed include: - Lower Pool East - Lower Overlook - Lower Pool West - West Bank Turn-out - West Bank

Flags to Fly at Half-Staff in Honor of Patriot Day, September 11
The United States flag will be displayed at half-staff at Forsyth County government facilities on Friday, Sept. 11, 2020, in recognition of Patriot Day following a proclamation by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp. By a joint resolution approved 12/18/2001, Public Law 107-89 has designated September 11 of each year as "Patriot Day" which also directs flags be lowered to half-staff for the entire day on September 11.

UPDATE: Portion of Big Creek Greenway Closed for Repair Now Open
UPDATE: The Big Creek Greenway damage has been repaired at section 4.2 - 4.3 and is now reopened. 9.9.2020: The Big Creek Greenway is temporarily closed for repairs between marker 4.2 and 4.3 until 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 10. A large tree fell on the greenway Wednesday morning, damaging a portion of the boardwalk between Union Hill Rd. and Fowler Park.

  Forsyth County residents wishing to register to vote in the Nov. 3 General and Special Elections, or to change their name and/or address on the voter registration list, must do so by Monday, Oct. 5. Forsyth County to Introduce Two Electric Vehicles
In an effort to reduce emissions, fuel and maintenance costs, Forsyth County is replacing two gas powered vehicles within the county fleet with zero-emission Nissan Leaf electric vehicles.   “These electric vehicles will provide a vast cost savings to the County as the Nissan Leaf has an operating cost that is 80% less than the average gas vehicle, said Fleet Services Director Avery Gravitt. “This is equal to purchasing gas at 60 cents per gallon.”   Two ChargePoint dual-port level II charging stations will also be added at a later date to the County’s Administration Building parking deck (215 Mason St.). Public meeting for Fowler Water Reclamation Facility set for Sept. 23   The Forsyth County Water & Sewer Department will host an open house meeting from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23, to provide information and gather public feedback on plans to expand the permitted discharge of highly treated wastewater from the Fowler WRF (4050 Carolene Way) to Big Creek from a rested discharge rate of 2.5 mgd seasonally to 5 mgd year-round.   Residents are invited to review the proposed permit application from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 23, at the Forsyth County Administration Building (110 E. Public meeting for Shakerag Water Reclamation Facility set for Sept. 9 The Forsyth County Water & Sewer Department will host an open house meeting from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9, to provide information and gather public feedback on plans to expand the permitted discharge of highly treated wastewater from the Shakerag WRF (553 Kemp Rd.) from 1.25 million gallons per day (mgd) to 2.5 mgd.   Additionally, the new Shakerag WRF flow will combine with flow from the previously approved expansion of the Fowler WRF (7.5 mgd) to increase the permitted discharge of highly treated wastewater to the Chattahoochee River from 6.0 mgd to 10.0 mgd.   Residents are ...
