Forsyth County Citizens' Academy

The Forsyth County Citizens’ Academy is an immersive program that will expand residents’ knowledge of Forsyth County Government. Local government has the greatest impact on residents’ day-to-day lives, but most people know very little about the innerworkings of the government closest to them. We aim to change that with this interactive program, which will provide participants a behind-the-scenes look at the Forsyth County Government through meetings with County Officials and site visits to various County departments.

The 2023 Citizens' Academy is currently underway. Applications for the 2024 Citizens' Academy will open in April 2024. The 2023 application is now closed, but you can view it and relevant documents below:

Forsyth County Student Government Academy

The Forsyth County Student Government Academy is a dynamic civics program for high school juniors that gives them the opportunity to engage with their local government and gain a deeper understanding of how it operates. We aim to enhance students’ leadership skills through conversations with government and community leaders. Additionally, tours of county departments, including the Fire Department, Senior Services, the Animal Shelter, Water and Sewer facilities and more, give students a behind-the-scenes look at county government in action.

Each Forsyth County high school nominates three rising juniors to participate in the program. Students graduate from the program with an expanded knowledge of Forsyth County government and a deeper connection with the community as future leaders.
