Forsyth County Wins Awards for Senior Services and Communications

The Department of Communications & External Affairs and two employees with Senior Services were recognized at a Board of Commissioners work session on Sept. 12 for winning prestigious awards. 

Senior Services Director Wins Statewide Recognition 

Senior Services Director Ruthie Brew recently won the State of Georgia Director of the Year Award from the Georgia Department of Human Services (GDHS), Division of Aging Services, for her leadership, vision and commitment to senior adults in Forsyth County. The award was presented at the state aging conference, the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Connection) Healthy Communities Summit. 

Assistant County Manager Tony Tarnacki said the Department of Senior Services “is a tremendous asset to the community.”

Senior Services Employee Recognized for Innovative Mobile Food Pantry Program 

Senior Services Senior Center Team Leader Susan Wright received the Arnisha Norman Award for Innovation in Food Services from the GDHS, Division of Aging Services. Wright leads the Mobile Food Pantry program, which delivers food to seniors who are homebound or in need. The award was presented at the ADRC Healthy Communities Summit.

Dept. of Communications & External Affairs Wins National Award for Annual Report 

The Department of Communications recently won best in category nationally in the Printed Publications – Annual Report category of the National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) 2023 Awards of Excellence

The winning 2022 Annual Report, written and designed by Morgan Schneider and Ashlyn Yule, is available in print and digital formats. The report highlights recent accomplishments, projects and statistics for various County departments and offices.
