PODCAST: Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Updating Master Plan

The Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation is updating its 10-year Master Plan through a multi-phased community and stakeholder engagement process and an online survey, which is available as of Thursday, Nov. 13.

“Our current Master Plan we have is from 2016; and we knew it was time for an update because in 2016, the least-requested activity was pickleball, which is extremely popular in Forsyth County right now,” said Forsyth County Parks & Recreation Director Kirk Franz. “When we talk about where we want Parks & Recreation to be in the future, we want to hear from our community. So, we encourage you to share your thoughts, ideas and feedback to help guide what you want to see in your parks.”

The online survey can be found here and asks residents about their use of current facilities, program interests, priorities for future improvements, and preferred funding approaches. Participants will also be entered into a raffle for one of three $100 credits toward Forsyth County Parks & Recreation rentals, memberships or programs as a thank-you for their time.

In addition to the survey, public meetings will be held in early 2026 to allow residents to share feedback in person and learn more about the planning process. Details on these meetings will be announced once available.

A project website for the master plan update, that includes the survey link, public engagement information and additional resources can be found by visiting www.forsythco.com/yourparks.

The 10-year Master Plan serves as a roadmap for the County’s park system, identifying community needs, setting priorities and outlining strategies for future investments. It will help ensure Forsyth County Parks & Recreation continues to provide diverse, accessible and high-quality recreational opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities.

Parks & Recreation is partnering with CPL, a multidisciplinary design and planning firm, to conduct the assessment and develop the updated plan.
