Forsyth County Holding Building Safety Kids Event for Building Safety Month
Forsyth County Building & Licensing will host Building Safety Kids Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27, outside at the Freedom Park campus (2435 Freedom Parkway), in celebration of Building Safety Month.
The free, family-friendly event will provide children with a hands-on opportunity to learn about building safety while constructing their own bird feeder project through a partnership with The Home Depot.
The event will be drop-in style between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Children attending the event will receive free goodies for their participation and completion of a birdfeeder. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Building Safety Kids Day is a fun way to introduce children to the importance of safe building practices while giving families the opportunity to engage with County staff in a hands-on environment,” said Director of Building & Licensing Jake Hill. “Building safety impacts every part of our daily lives, and this event helps demonstrate how Building & Licensing helps build a safe and strong Forsyth.”
Children attending the event will begin at a mock permitting station before building their bird feeder kit. After construction, participants will visit a building inspection station where County inspectors will review their project and issue a “Certificate of Occupancy” upon completion. Light refreshments will also be available. Parent or guardian supervision is required for participation.
The event is designed to introduce children to the role building safety professionals play in creating safe, strong communities while offering an interactive and educational experience.
Building Safety Month is celebrated in May and is an international campaign led by the International Code Council to raise awareness about the importance of safe and sustainable construction practices. The 2026 theme, “Built to Last,” highlights the role building safety plays in creating resilient homes, businesses and communities.
