Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Recognized by Humane Society for Leadership in Animal Welfare

During their July 21 meeting, Forsyth County’s Board of Commissioners was recognized with the Humane Law Maker Award from the Humane Society of the United States.

The award was given for their leadership and support of animal welfare in a recent vote to modify the County’s Code of Ordinances to prohibit the illegal sale of pets.

In June, the Board of Commissioners voted to modify Ordinance 11 with an amendment to prohibit the sale of pets by pet shops or roadside sales. Pet shops may still house adoptable animals in their shops with the information on adoption through proper organizations.

They also received canvases of art of the state dog of Georgia, “the adoptable dog”. The “adoptable dog” was passed as the official state dog by the 2016 Georgia General Assembly.

The Board of Commissioners is proud to have the support of the community and to continue serving the County through their individual and collective capacities.
