Community Groups Invited to Provide Input for County’s Comprehensive Plan Update Process

Groups can be involved in the update process via a Meeting in a Box

All community groups in Forsyth County are urged to give their input on Foster Forsyth, the process of updating the Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan. Community groups now have an additional way to be involved in the update process through a new Meeting in a Box opportunity. The Meeting in a Box enables community groups to conduct their own mini-workshops in order to learn about the planning process and give input outside the context of the formally scheduled workshops. Information gathered from the boxes will be used by the Foster Forsyth planning team in making land-use and design recommendations in the Comprehensive Plan update process. The boxes are free, and any interested group in Forsyth County is invited and encouraged to participate.

What is in a Meeting in a Box?

The Meeting in a Box contains all of the instructions and materials community group leaders need to run a Foster Forsyth mini-workshop. The box provides information for group facilitators about the planning process for use in communicating this information to their group. The box also contains activities designed to collect input from the group that will be used in the Comprehensive Plan update process.

How to Get a Meeting in a Box for Your Group

Those interested in obtaining a Meeting in a Box for their group should contact Audra Rojek, a member of the Jacobs consultant team, at (404) 978-7569 or contactus@fosterforsyth.com in advance of picking up a box. The free boxes will be available for pick up in Suite 100 of the Forsyth County Administration Building (located at 110 E. Main Street in Cumming) beginning at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1. About Foster Forsyth

Foster Forsyth will result in a full update to the County’s Comprehensive Plan, focused on community elements such as housing, transportation and other land use matters as well as economic development.  The Comprehensive Plan is the umbrella policy document for the county’s future growth and development, which plays an important role in rezoning and development decisions. The plan also establishes community goals and priorities for the county’s future. A number of community workshops have been held in recent months, with Implementation Workshops to be held on June 13 and June 15. In late August, the final set of public meetings will present highlights from the draft Comprehensive Plan in an open-house format.

The update process provides an opportunity for the community as a whole to pause and have a meaningful dialogue about its vision for housing, quality of life and employment opportunities, along with the policies and programs that will support plan implementation.

The Comprehensive Plan update process is being conducted by Jacobs in collaboration with Kimley-Horn. For more information please visit www.fosterforsyth.com or contact Audra Rojek, a member of the Jacobs consultant team, at (404) 978-7569 or contactus@fosterforsyth.com.
