During a July 17 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners proclaimed the month of July 2025 as Parks & Recreation Month to recognize the County’s Department of Parks & Recreation for its commitment to providing the community with safe, clean and inclusive parks and recreation opportunities.

Parks and recreation is a vital part of any community, and the Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation increases the county’s total well-being by creating beautiful, natural spaces, attracting and retaining businesses, encouraging time spent in nature, providing programming and educational activities and more.

“Parks & Recreation is not just playgrounds or pavilions or recreation centers; it’s a place where kids learn teamwork, families come to gather, families make memories, and seniors stay active, and communities come together. It’s a cornerstone of health, wellness and quality of life,” said Department of Parks & Recreation Director Kirk Franz. “We’re proud of the role that we play in serving the residents of Forsyth County, and we’re also grateful for [the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners’] continued support and investment in our mission.”

The Forsyth County Department of Parks & Recreation operates and maintains 2,900 acres with 16 passive parks and 14 active parks, for a total of 30 parks in the community; as well as over 55 miles of trails, 91 sports fields, 28 pickleball courts, 22 playgrounds, three campgrounds, four dog parks, three recreation centers and 52 pavilions.
