Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022

  • 1:32 p.m.: From the Sheriff's Office: report of trees down at the following locations:

    • McConnell Rd. near Watson Rd.
  • 12:45 p.m.: From the Sheriff's Office: report of trees down at the following locations:
    • Bethel Rd./Century Tr.

  • 10:56 a.m.: From the Sheriff's Office: report of trees down with wires at the following location:

      FCSO Chainsaw Teams are out clearing the roads as quickly as possible. We do ask, if you do not need to be on the road 

  • 6:30 a.m.: Currently, there is some slushy mix on the ground in areas of north Forsyth as the wind continues to pickup. The wintry mix we are currently seeing is expected to turn into snow sometime in the 10 a.m. hour as the temperature drops to freezing.
    • High Wind Warning and Wind Advisory in effect until 2 p.m. Sunday.

Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022

  • 3 p.m.: From a National Weather Service briefing:
    • Major winter weather storm will impact parts of north Ga. Beginning tonight, continuing through Sunday evening. A winter storm warning is in effect from midnight tonight to midnight Sunday night in Forsyth County. 
      • Total Snow Accumulations: 2-4 inches.
      • The majority of the snowfall is anticipated during the daytime Sunday
      • Strong winds with gusts up to 50 mph
      • Power outages & tree damage are possible due to strong winds

Friday, Jan. 14, 2022

  • 2:30 p.m.: National Weather Service confidence is continuing to grow that Forsyth County will experience some form of a winter weather event late Saturday through the day Sunday. 

What:  Rain mixing with or changing to snow, sleet and freezing rain. Total snow accumulation up to 2 inches. Total ice accumulation up to 0.20 inches. 

When:  Onset of winter precipitation around 5-8 PM Saturday continuing all day Sunday and tapering off by midnight Sunday night.

Where: Mainly north of I-20. Greatest snow amounts north and east of ATL metro. Greatest ice accumulation northeast Georgia including east ATL metro and north of I-20.  

                  Other threats:

  • As strong low pressure moves across the state, winds will become very strong late Saturday night and Sunday. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph will be common with some gusts of 40 to 50 mph at elevations above 2500 feet.
  • Wind chill values will range from 15 to 25 Saturday night through Monday morning over much of north Georgia with readings in the teens in the mountains. 
  • Refreezing of liquid water, or "black ice", is likely across much of north Georgia and parts of middle Georgia Sunday night and Monday morning.
  • 1 p.m.: Georgia Department crews are preparing state roads today and tomorrow with brining solutions ahead of projected winter weather
