National Weather Service Hosting SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training March 31

Looking for local volunteer opportunities? Forsyth County’s EMA and the National Weather Service (NSW) Atlanta/Peachtree office will be hosting an in-person SKYWARN Storm Spotter training on Friday, March 31 at 6:00 p.m. at the following address:

Forsyth County Administration Building
Commission Meeting Room
110 East Main Street
Cumming, GA 30040
*Parking is available in the parking deck behind the Administration building on Mason St.

The class is free and open to everyone interested in public service.

Attendees can expect to learn

  • Basics of thunderstorm development
  • Fundamentals of storm structure
  • Identifying potential severe weather features
  • Information to report
  • How to report information
  • Basic severe weather safety

 

SKYWARN is a volunteer program with over 350,000 trained severe weather spotters who provide timely and accurate reports of severe weather and damage to the National Weather Service. Anyone, regardless of experience, can be a SKYWARN Storm Spotter, including amateur radio operators, first responders, CERT members and members of the general public.
