PODCAST: Moratorium on Residential Growth Approved Following Request from Board of Education

During their April 17 meeting, the Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a moratorium on all residential applications, in place until reviewed again by the Board on May 15, 2025.

Learn more by listening to the Forsyth County Unplugged Podcast with insight on the decision from Chairman and District 2 Commissioner Alfred John as well as District 4 Commissioner Mendy Moore.

The moratorium comes in response to a resolution passed by the Forsyth County Board of Education asking the County, and City of Cumming, to “take effective measures to reduce or eliminate high-density residential development,” which can be viewed here

“We need to hit the pause button. Let’s put a stop to accepting any more residential applications,” said John in the podcast. “What we did was give ourselves some time (the Board of Commissioners, the School Board and our staff) to get together, work together, and talk about what are the things we can do.”

The moratorium is on all residential applications, in place until reviewed again on May 15, 2025. The order will remain in effect until midnight on May 15, unless extended by the Board following a public hearing that day.
