Board of Commissioners to Hold Public Hearing on Draft Comprehensive Plan, Consider Transmittal for Regional and State Review

Public hearing to be held December 1

On December 1, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the draft Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan 2017-2037, after which they will consider transmittal of the draft for regional and state review. The public hearing will take place as part of the regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, which starts at 5 p.m. The meeting will be held in Suite 220 of the Forsyth County Administration Building located at 110 E. Main Street in Cumming.

Prior to advancing the plan, the Board of Commissioners will hear a presentation from the planning team highlighting the planning process, key plan content and recommended adjustments to the plan resulting from the Planning Commission hearing on September 27, and its subsequent recommendation at its October 25 meeting. The Planning Commission recommended advancing the plan for review along with a series of recommended changes. Members of the public will have an opportunity to voice their perspective on the draft plan during the public hearing prior to the Board of Commissioners taking action to advance the plan.

The draft Comprehensive Plan 2017-2037 is the result of a multi-month process that began in early 2016, branded as Foster Forsyth. The content and direction provided within the draft plan is driven by input received by the many Forsyth County community members who participated in the planning process. Following regional and state review, the county will consider final adjustments to the plan based on the review and final public input. The plan is tentatively scheduled to be considered for adoption by the Board of Commissioners on March 2, 2017.

About Foster Forsyth

Foster Forsyth is a full update initiative to Forsyth County’s Comprehensive Plan, focused on community elements such as housing, transportation, zoning and other land use matters, as well as economic development. The Comprehensive Plan is the umbrella policy document for the county’s future growth and development, which plays an important role in rezoning and development decisions. The plan also establishes community goals and priorities for the county’s future.

The update process provides an opportunity for the community as a whole to pause and have a meaningful dialogue about its vision for land use, housing, quality of life and employment opportunities, along with the policies and programs that will support plan implementation.

The Comprehensive Plan update process is being conducted by Jacobs in collaboration with Kimley-Horn. For more information, please visit www.FosterForsyth.com or contact Meghan McMullen, a member of the Jacobs consultant team, at (404) 978-7651 or contactus@fosterforsyth.com.
