As a way to honor four Forsyth County public safety personnel who fell in the line of duty, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently approved the renaming of four roads – two memorializing fallen deputies and two memorializing fallen firefighters.

Today, two of those roads were officially dedicated. Sections of North Old Atlanta Road have been renamed for Deputy Bill Cantrell and Reserve Deputy Larry Mulkey, who were shot and killed in 1972 after being abducted during a traffic stop. Today a ceremony was held to dedicate “Deputy Bill Cantrell Memorial Road” and “Larry Mulkey Memorial Road.”

Plans are being made for dedication ceremonies for the two roads renamed for the fallen firefighters, with details to be announced at a later date.

We owe a debt of gratitude to the courageous men and women who fell while in service to this county.
