911 Telecommunications Officer Guides Caller Through CPR, Saves Life

In November 2023, 911 Center Asst. Supervisor Racheal Champion answered the phone like any other day. But when Mr. Zipperer called because his wife became unresponsive, Champion jumped into action, sending over first responders and providing CPR instructions.

Doctors later told Mr. Zipperer that if it were not for the life-saving CPR instructions, his wife, Cathy, would not have made a full recovery. In fact, only 4% of patients with her diagnosis survive.

Champion was recently presented a Life Saving Award and added another leaf to the Tree of Life mural, which signifies a baby delivered or life saved through a dispatcher’s instructions. Better yet, Champion was able to meet the Zipperer family, share in their joy and experience the difference that 911 dispatchers make.

Forsyth County congratulates and thanks Asst. Supervisor Racheal Champion for her quick thinking and dedication to her vital role in our community.

Mr. and Mrs. Zipperer were in attendance as Asst. Supervisor Racheal Champion received the Live Saving Award.
