Long Range Planning Division

The Long Range Planning Division is responsible for managing the rezoning, sketch plat, conditional use and home occupation permit processes. In addition, it oversees policy and code changes as reflected in the Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan and the Unified Development Code. Our division is committed to ensuring quality service while preparing for future generations through public participation and professional planning support.

Forsyth County North Subarea Trails Master Plan

  • Building upon the Forsyth County Bicycle Transportation and Pedestrian Walkways 2025 Plan, the North Subarea Trails Master Plan seeks to promote bicycle travel and increased walkability by connecting neighborhoods, county facilities and, natural resources.


  • Forsyth County commissioned Bleakly Advisory Group to conduct this Demographic Study to provide research and analysis in seeking answers to several key questions about the county’s future.
  • The Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan, adopted in July 2017, identifies aging in place and multi-generational housing as an important priority for the future of the county. This study examines demographic trends and the needs and preferences of Forsyth County residents to properly plan for a growing community.

McFarland-Stoney Point Livable Centers Initiative (LCI)

  • The Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) is a program that awards planning grants on a competitive basis to local governments and nonprofit organizations to prepare and implement plans for the enhancement of existing centers and corridors consistent with regional development policies, and also provides transportation infrastructure funding for projects identified in the LCI plans.​​​
