Happy Holiday Season!
Christmas is quickly approaching, and I wanted to take a moment to share with you something near and dear to my heart that gets the true Christmas spirit going in my world each year. I teach 4th/5th grade Sunday school at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Each year we receive names from the Hightower Baptist Association of kids in need. They ask for you to spend $50 a child but we were able to have $100 each to spend. I carry my class to eat lunch for their Christmas treat and we strategize with Google on what the child would like the most with the money we have. We don’t have sizes for clothes, only their gender and age. The kids just go on and on about what they liked at that age and looking at the cost of different things. We even pull lists of most liked toys at specific ages. Off to Walmart we go, and we start searching. We have to add in tax and the bags to put them in. Of course, we always go over a little, but each child really loves the experience and I hope learns something from it.
I think Christmas is truly about what we give to others. It doesn’t have to be about what we go out and purchase, but it can be whatever we give from our heart. With so many hurting this holiday season, I know we can each make this world better by giving some type of love away.
