Water Quality Reports

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires community water systems to deliver an annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as a Water Quality Report, that provides citizens information about their local drinking water quality.

The Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department is proud to supply clean, safe, and reliable drinking water for all of its customers. In 2022 (the year the 2023 Water Quality Report covers), the drinking water supplied to you met all EPA and state drinking water health standards. The Water Quality Report details where your water comes from, what it contains, and how it compares to standards set forth by regulatory agencies.

Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP)

The 1996 Amendments to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act brought about new pollution prevention and protection measures to help ensure clean and safe drinking water by assessing potential contamination and promoting protection of States' drinking water sources. These amendments direct states to enact Source Water Protection Programs to protect their drinking water sources from contamination. The initial step in the development of the program was to prepare an inventory and assessment of each water supply watershed in the state. This step was called the Source Water Assessment Plan (SWAP).

In 2020, the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District (MNGWPD) completed Source Water Assessment Plans for public drinking water intakes within the 15 county metropolitan Atlanta region.

Source Water Assessment Plans:

  • Delineate the watershed area for each public drinking water source
  • Contain an inventory of potential sources of contamination within that watershed
  • Determine the susceptibility of the water supply to contamination within the watershed assessment area

The Forsyth County SWAP was approved by the GA Environmental Protection Division in September 2020.
