Outdoor Water Use Restrictions

Outdoor Water Use Restrictions

Current Drought Response Level:

NON-DROUGHT

Forsyth County is currently under a Non-Drought Water Use Schedule.  This water schedule allows all types of water use each day of the week, but landscape watering only before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. daily.  This is done to limit evaporation during the warmest part of the day.  All citizens are urged to be good stewards of our water resources and conserve water on a year-round basis.

Did you know that Forsyth County has an ordinance in place to prevent water loss through inefficient irrigation practices, malfunctioning irrigation systems, or visible outdoor leaks.  The Waste of Water Prohibitions (Sec. 18-188 of the Forsyth County Municipal Code) lists specific activities related to outdoor water use that are prohibited at any time throughout the year, regardless of Drought Response Level.

Exemption for Newly Installed Plantings/Landscaping

The irrigation of new plants and seed, or turf in landscapes, golf courses, or sports turf fields during installation and for a period of 30 days immediately following the date of installation shall be allowed under Georgia EPD Drought Management regulations.  However, Forsyth County requires a Landscape Exemption Form for newly planted landscaping during the 30 day period.

This form must be completed and faxed (770-781-2163) or brought by in person to the Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department (110 East Main St., Suite 150, Cumming GA 30040) before the exemption will be permitted.

Note: Landscape Exemption Forms are not required when Non-Drought restrictions are in place.
