Public Health Preparedness

The Forsyth County Emergency Management Agency coordinates community efforts to plan for a variety of public health situations.

This planning includes preparing for COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) which has been identified as a major concern by the Department of Public Health and the Center for Disease Control.

Georgia Department of Public Health Daily Status Report

All facets of our community are taking part in this planning process, including businesses, health care, the county school system, faith-based organizations and more. The county’s goal is to inform residents about all public health related issues and to develop a comprehensive response plan, should an outbreak occur.

Residents are encouraged to prepare plans for how their family would respond to a public health crisis.

The same measures that are urged to prevent the spread of any respiratory virus are increasingly important for all Georgians:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue to cover it, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Remember that flu is still widespread and active in Georgia - it's not too late to get a flu shot. The best prevention against the flu is vaccination.
