Forsyth County Commissioner Alfred John was elected in 2020 to serve the 2021-2024 term representing District 2, which encompasses the southeastern portion of the County. Commissioner John was elected by the Board of Commissioners to serve as Chairman in 2022, 2023 and 2024 as well as secretary in 2021. He served on the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) after being asked to join by former Commissioner Rick Swope in 2017. In 2020, he was voted by his fellow board members to be the Chairman of the ZBA.

Chairman John also serves on the Board of the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) with 10 county Chairs and 11 city mayors. In 2024 was elected by his fellow members to serve on the Executive Committee as Board Secretary and Chair of the Ethics Committee.

Commissioner John’s background in the corporate world has well prepared him for his role as commissioner. He has a depth of knowledge in technology and practices related to Human Resource and has consulted with employers on process efficiencies in multiple areas of the field. Most recently he held a leadership role for a firm in Atlanta, managing HR operations, payroll and technology. 

With passion for his community, Commissioner John wants to manage growth in a sustainable manner and continue to establish Forsyth County as a great place to live, work, play and raise a family. Other topics Commissioner John wants to focus on are growing Forsyth County’s commercial base and reinforcing road and infrastructure needs. 

Commissioner John and his wife have lived in Forsyth County for over 21 years, and have two grown children who attended Forsyth County Schools, colleges in Georgia and are now taxpayers to the Federal government and the State of Georgia!
