Each fall, when algae bloom in the fall in Lake Lanier (the County’s raw water source) and release compounds like MIB and geosmin, our drinking water can taste a little earthy. These compounds are NOT toxic or harmful, and the County’s Department of Water & Sewer actively uses ozone treatment to remove the compounds from the water supply. Read more...
