Precinct, Polling Place and District Changes are in Effect for May 24 Election

Voters encouraged to review their polling place ahead of May 24 election

DISTRICT CHANGES

Every ten years following completion of the census, the U.S. Constitution requires all voting districts be evaluated to ensure equal representation. As law establishes that representatives are to be based on population, district lines are re-drawn as needed based upon changes in population. In Forsyth County, analysis of the census data has resulted in changes to all voting districts: congressional, state senate, state house, county commission and county school board.

The current district lines remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2022. The recently approved district lines will go into effect Jan. 1, 2023. The district representing a voter today could be different from the district representing the voter on Jan. 1, 2023. All races on the ballot for the 2022 election cycle will become effective on Jan. 1, 2023 and represent the newly approved district lines. The following districts will represent Forsyth County:

  • Congressional:
    • District 6
  • State Senate:
    • Districts 27 and 48
  • State House:
    • Districts 11, 24, 25, 26, 28 and 100
  • Forsyth County Board of Commissioners and Board of Education districts:
    • Districts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
    • All five district lines for both boards have been re-drawn. The district lines for both boards are the same.
    • Board of Education district 2 and district 5 will be interchanged on Jan. 1, 2023 and the tenure for the districts will be transferred.
    • Board of Education district 5 (formerly an area referred to as District 2) seat will now appear on the ballot for the 2022 election cycle.

PRECINCT AND POLLING PLACE CHANGES

On Feb. 11 and March 24, 2022, the Forsyth County Board of Voter Registrations & Elections approved multiple precinct and polling place changes that became effective with the 2022 election cycle. The approved changes resulted in 28 Election Day polling places and precincts to accommodate the increase in registered voters.

Additional information about the approved changes can be found on the Voter Registrations & Elections webpage or by clicking here. Maps can be found online under the ‘Precinct Maps’ tab on the Voter Registrations & Elections webpage or by clicking here.

VOTER PRECINCT CARDS TO BE MAILED TO VOTERS

Forsyth County Voter Registrations & Elections will be mailing precinct cards to all of the county’s approximately 172,000 registered voters following recent changes to district lines, precincts and polling places.

“We are sending precinct cards out to every registered county voter (registered as of March 25, 2022) because all Forsyth County voters are impacted by changes to district lines and many voters are impacted by recently-approved precinct and polling place changes,” said  Smith. “The precinct card serves as a voter’s official notification about all of the changes that affect them.”

The card, which looks like a postcard, contains information about a voter’s assigned Election Day polling place once opened. Voters are encouraged to open their precinct card upon receipt, review their information and familiarize themselves with precinct, polling place and district changes .

The Change of Address portion of the card only needs to be returned if the voter’s registration information needs to be updated. Voters do not need to present their precinct card to vote; it is for the voter’s reference only.

Precinct cards are also mailed out routinely to residents who register to vote and voters who update their voter information. A sample precinct card can be viewed at www.forsythco.com/vote
