Forsyth County to Hold Surplus Furniture Sale Saturday, November 5

Forsyth County government will conduct a sale of surplus furniture on Saturday, November 5. The sale will be held one day only, on November 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, at 843 Canton Highway in Cumming.

In addition to furniture such as desks and chairs, a limited number of appliances will also be available at the sale.

Important things to note about the sale:

  • This is not an auction.
  • Those wishing to make a purchase will need to register at the sale as a buyer.
  • All sales will be cash only.
  • All sales are final.
  • All items are sold as is, with no warranties or guarantees.
  • All purchased items must be removed from the sale site that day, and gates will close promptly at 5 p.m. No other days will be available for pickup of purchased items.
  • Buyers must load purchased items themselves; staff will not be available to assist with loading.
  • Items such as vehicles and equipment will NOT be available for purchase at this sale.
  • Furniture prices will be as follows: desk $10, chair $2, bookcase $5, file cabinet (short) $5 and file cabinet (tall/4-drawer) $10. Other miscellaneous furniture will be priced on-site. Appliances will be priced on-site.

While the county has surplus furniture from time to time, currently a larger than normal amount is on hand due to the recent construction of the county’s new courthouse and jail, and renovation of the courthouse annex.

“When offices moved into the new courthouse and jail, furniture was standardized in order to be uniform, which left us with some surplus furniture,” said Procurement Director Donna Kukarola. “What surplus furniture other county departments and offices were unable to use is now in storage. As the county government no longer has a need for these items, we will be selling this furniture to the public. They will have the opportunity to get items at very reasonable prices, and the county will no longer need to pay to store those items.”
