Forsyth County Recognized for Excellence In Financial Accounting, Reporting And Budgeting

For the 21st consecutive year, Forsyth County has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). The recognition was recently presented to Forsyth County for its annual comprehensive financial report for the 2021 fiscal year. Also, for the 11th consecutive year, the County received a GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, most recently for the 2023 fiscal year.

According to the GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. These attainments represent significant accomplishments by a government and its management.

“It is an honor to be a part of a county recognized for these achievements for numerous consecutive years. The recognition signifies the hard work and determination of our Finance Department personnel,” Forsyth County Chief Financial Officer Marc Turk said.

Forsyth County’s 2021 comprehensive financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the program’s high standards including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read it. The report is available for review on the Finance Department page of the County website at forsythco.com.

The County’s 2023 budget report also was examined by a panel of independent reviewers and found to meet nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. The 2023 budget is available for review on the Finance Department page of the County website at forsythco.com.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve.
