Update: At their meeting August 17, 2017, the Board of Commissioners voted to deny the Resolution to increase board member compensation.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 36-5-24(b), the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners does hereby provide notice that on August 17, 2017, the Board will take up for consideration and possibly approve a Resolution authorizing an increase in Board of Commissioner member compensation.

The proposed compensation for the Board of Commissioners is as follows: (1) annual salary for the Chair: $49,500; annual salary for other Board members: $48,000; (2) Board members shall receive the same health insurance coverage as regular full-time employees, and the same health coverage terms upon leaving office that are currently in place for present Board members; (3) Board members annual salary compensation shall be adjusted based upon the larger of either an approved County COLA increase or an approved County-wide merit increase; (4) Board members shall be entitled to any Carl Vinson/ACCG training incentives or supplements as well as any longevity increases, authorized by State or local law; (5) Board members shall remain eligible for participation in the County’s 401k plan; and, (6) Board members shall be issued a County phone.

The anticipated fiscal impact of this compensation increase, as compared with the current Board of Commissioners’ compensation, is a cumulative annual base salary increase of $71,291.71. Annual training supplements of $6,000 do not increase the annual base salary financial impact but are modified by the percentage of cola or merit increase.  The fiscal impact will necessarily be affected by the extent of any cola/merit increase.

If a Resolution authorizing this increase is approved on August 17, 2017, this compensation increase will become effective January 1, 2019.
