Volunteer & Donate

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are important for our programs, whether serving needy older adults or providing life enrichment activities at our centers. Volunteers donate their time, energy, goods and services, or make financial contributions.  All are welcomed and greatly appreciated.  If you are interested in learning more, please contact us at volunteer@forsythco.com or call (770) 781-2178.

Most volunteer opportunities are for adults, although outdoor projects and special presentations are sometimes offered by youth organizations.
Volunteer candidates will be asked to fill out an application, attend an interview, and submit to a background check.

Current Needs

Vegetables - If you’re planning on doing a vegetable garden this year, would you consider growing a row for the Senior Services food bank? Yes, the department has a food bank to assist needy older adults. We take the food bank out on the road to lower income neighborhoods once or twice per week and would love to have fresh produce. Most of what we provide is can or packaged goods. If and when you have items to donate, you may drop them off at Sexton Hall or Charles Place and we will distribute.

Other Languages - Any bi-lingual speakers who would like to go with us out on the mobile food bank routes? We are looking for Spanish, Hindi, and Ukrainian speakers in particular. The commitment would be for around 2 hours twice per month, on weekday afternoons. Visits to neighborhoods where English is a 2nd language should begin in June.

For further information, call or email Food Bank Team Leader Susan Wright: (770) 781-2178, Charles Place or stwright@forsythco.com.
