In-Person Older Adult Activities

Congregate Program
This is an Older Americans Act social and nutrition-focused program, open to independent older adults, age 60 and older.  Lunch and fun activities are provided with most attending two ½ days per week.  A registration process is required for participation.  Older adults call to have a conversation with a care worker, set up an appointment for a visit, and if they choose to join, a brief assessment process takes place.  Placement may be at either Charles Place in downtown Cumming (next to the public library) or at Sexton Hall (in south Forsyth County on Sharon Road).  Transportation may be provided for those no longer driving; fees may apply.  There is no membership fee, but donations are appreciated. Call Charles Place at (770) 78102178, option 1, and ask to speak to Barbara Wiggins.

Respite/Memory Support Program

This is a half day program designed to provide relief for caregivers who have loved ones with early stage dementia. The program is social in nature, versus a medical model, and therefore no-hands on, personal care is provided such as with transfers, eating or toileting.  Lunch and fun activities are provided. A series of visits to the program and an assessment process are required for registration. Fees are assigned on a sliding scale basis. Call Sexton Hall at (770) 781-2178, option 2, and ask to speak to Laura Bagwell. Also ask about caregiver support groups and educational programs.
