About the Finance Department

Located in the Forsyth County Administration Building, the Forsyth County Finance Department’s mission is to be the centralized focal point for overseeing financial programs and activities, providing financial leadership and expertise to county managers, and interpreting county goals and policies.

The Finance Department administers the County Budget, Treasury, Accounting and Internal Audit, assuring compliance with all federal, state and local laws.

The department provides financial support to all county departments in the implementation of goals and objectives established by the Board of Commissioners.  The finance department also advises county officials on debt matters, accounting issues, as well as  other financial matters.  Our staff analyzes financial data and makes recommendations to assist county management in making sound financial decisions.

Divisions

Accounting

The Forsyth County Accounting Department is a division of the Forsyth County Finance Department. The Accounting Department, through use of the county's automated accounting system, prepares vouchers and pays vendor invoices, maintains the fixed assets property records, and is responsible for the general ledger and preparation of the county's financial reports including the coordination of the annual audit.

The department implements sound principles of governmental accounting and provides support services to all departments of Forsyth County government. This division also maintains Forsyth County's official financial records, and is responsible for preparation and distribution of financial reports, development of proper internal control measures and administration of grants.

Account Payable

Accounts Payable is responsible for departmental disbursement of utilities, check requests and internal reimbursements. They also control payment of county vendors through a weekly check distribution. All management of county invoices are also under the direction of this department.

Vendor Information
Forsyth County issues checks weekly with payments mailed each Friday. To determine if an invoice is approved for payment. To register to be a vendor with Forsyth County please contact the Purchasing Department. Maintaining an accurate vendor database is an essential function of this department to ensure proper payments.

Treasury

This division of the Forsyth County Finance Department is responsible for the incoming Hotel/Motel and Alcohol Excise Tax.

These taxes are collected from area hotels/motels, liquor wholesalers and restaurants and then used to fund community development and promote tourism within Forysth County. Taxes collected will be based on the occupancy at each individual hotel/motel along with alcohol sales in restaurants and stores. All revenue for the sale of alcohol and taxes based on lodging are due by the 20th of each month.
