Board of Commissioners Recognizes International Award-Winning iGEM Team

During their Dec. 15 regular meeting, the Board of Commissioners recognized Lambert High School’s iGEM team for their recent win of the International Grand Prize for High School at the iGEM 2022 Grand Jamboree annual competition held in Paris, France.

The iGEM Team, which stands for International Genetically Engineered Machine, is comprised of 28 students and 3 advisors. For their submission, the team created a blood-based test for early detection of coronary artery disease with a focus on increasing accessibility and affordability for patients, doctors and researchers in order to increase the knowledge of microRNA involvement in the disease.

This project had to impress 370 judges to then receive 6 nominations including their best in show award for the high school level. They were the only high school team from the United States to receive such distinction.

The iGEM Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of synthetic biology, education and competition, and the development of an open, collaborative, and cooperative community. The iGEM 2022 Grand Jamboree, held in Paris, France this October, is known as the most important annual global synthetic biology gathering.

The Board of Commissioners congratulates Lambert’s iGEM team for this outstanding accomplishment and for representing the future of the community so well in this international competition.
