On Thursday, April 13, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners will consider transmittal of the draft Forsyth County Comprehensive Plan 2017-2037 for regional and state review. The public hearing will take place as part of a regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners, starting at 5 p.m.

Prior to advancing the plan, the Board of Commissioners will hear a presentation from the planning team, highlighting the planning process, key plan content and recommended adjustments to the plan. These adjustments to the plan are the result of public hearings and special called meetings that occurred on December 1, 2016; December 6, 2016; December 19, 2016; January 19, 2017; March 2, 2017; and March 29, 2017.

At these meetings, the Board of Commissioners considered recommendations from the Planning Commission, as well as additional input from citizens. This additional public input focused on refining boundaries of proposed character areas and nodes, decreasing density within specific character areas, clarifying mixed use zoning and specifying the desired locations for future commercial uses. Details on these proposed changes, including Board of Commissioner input and direction, will be posted to the project website, Members of the public will have an opportunity to voice their perspective on the draft plan during the public hearing prior to the Board of Commissioners taking action to advance the plan.

The draft Comprehensive Plan 2017-2037 is the result of a multi-month process that began in early 2016, branded as Foster Forsyth. The content and direction provided within the draft plan is driven by input received from the many Forsyth County community members who participated in the planning process. Following regional and state review, the county will have the opportunity to consider adjustments to the plan based on the review and final public input.

About Foster Forsyth
Foster Forsyth
is a full update initiative to the county’s Comprehensive Plan, focused on community elements such as housing, transportation, zoning and other land use matters, as well as economic development. The Comprehensive Plan is the umbrella policy document for the county’s future growth and development, which plays an important role in rezoning and development decisions. The plan also establishes community goals and priorities for the county’s future.

The update process provides an opportunity for the community as a whole to pause and have a meaningful dialogue about its vision for housing, quality of life and employment opportunities, along with the policies and programs that will support plan implementation.

The Comprehensive Plan update process is being conducted by Jacobs in collaboration with Kimley-Horn. For more information, please visit or contact Meghan McMullen, a member of the Jacobs consultant team, at (404) 978-7651 or
