Local students encouraged to participate in ninth annual contest

The Forsyth County Fire Department invites all local third grade students to share their artistic talents while promoting a commitment to fire safety by participating in the eighth annual Forsyth County Fire Safety Poster Contest.

The Fire Safety Poster Contest is open to all third-grade students in Forsyth County public, private and homeschools. The posters should reflect one of the following themes:

- ‘Two Ways Out’ – Always know two ways out of a location
- ‘Firefighters Are Our Friends’ – Don’t be scared of firefighters in gear
- ‘Get Low and Go’ – Crawl under smoke

“Getting to see the creative ways participants create safety messages is something that we look forward to every year,” said Fire Chief Barry Head. “Reaching our community’s children through our department’s many public education efforts is something in which we take a great deal of pride.”

One winner and one runner-up for each theme will be chosen by a panel of five judges. The three winners will enjoy a pizza party with their class and local firefighters. The three winners and three runners-up will receive the honor of having their artwork displayed in county buildings and will receive a certificate of accomplishment from the Forsyth County Fire Chief.

Posters are due by Friday, March 15 and should be created on paper (minimum dimensions of 8.5-inches by 11-inches and maximum dimensions of 18-inches by 24-inches). Contest rules and entry forms can be found on the Fire Department page of the Forsyth County website at forsythco.com.
