Big Creek Greenway Reopened After Flooding
UPDATE (4/7/17): The Big Creek Greenway has been reopened, as floodwaters have receded. The boardwalk trail between mile 6.1 and 6.2, which sustained heavy damage during a storm on March 21, remains closed while it undergoes repairs.  The Big Creek Greenway trail is closed from the McFarland Parkway Trailhead to the Bethelview Road Trailhead due to flooding from yesterday's storms.   Users can still access the newest portion of the trail by parking at the Bethleview Trailhead and traveling north towards Kelly Mill Road. For the fifth consecutive year, Forsyth County has been named the healthiest county in Georgia. The distinction comes as part of the annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps study initiated by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute. The rankings are based on county residents’ quality of life and length of life, and the report presents a series of other factors that help influence those criteria. Lanierland Park in Northeast Forsyth County Now Open
Project funded by Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond and Impact Fees Northeast Forsyth County is now home to a new 109-acre park, for which ground was broken last spring. The new Lanierland Park, located at 6115 Jot-Em-Down Road, was funded by the Parks, Recreation and Green Space Bond approved by voters in 2008 and by Impact Fees. Phase I of the park includes four rectangular synthetic turf fields, four picnic pavilions, a playground, restroom and concession facilities, and parking.
