Meincke Sworn In as Forsyth County Associate Juvenile Court Judge
Randall A. Meincke was recently appointed as the first full-time associate Juvenile Court judge for Forsyth County and was sworn into office on August 5, 2016. The ceremony was held at the Forsyth County Juvenile Justice Center, with Chief Superior Court Judge Jeffrey S. Bagley and Chief Juvenile Court Judge J. Russell Jackson officiating. Judge Meincke became the county’s 10th full-time member of the judiciary, joining Judge Jackson as the second full-time judge in the Juvenile Court of Forsyth County. Judge Meincke had served for the past two years as a part-time associate judge to the Juvenile Court.

Newest Phase of Forsyth County’s Big Creek Greenway Now Open
New phase extends trail by 2.8 miles   The newest phase of Forsyth County’s Big Creek Greenway is now open for use. The new stretch of the popular multi-use trail, referred to as Phase 4, extends the Greenway by approximately 2.8 miles. This results in a total trail length of approximately 9.6 miles.   The new phase begins at the Bethelview Road trailhead and generally runs northward along Big Creek, then runs parallel to Kelly Mill Road and ends at Johnson Road. Central Park Playground to Temporarily Close for Enhancement Project
Playground surface is being upgraded   The playground at Forsyth County’s Central Park will be temporarily closed beginning Monday, August 8 to allow for a resurfacing project to be completed. The playground surface is being upgraded from mulch to a rubberized surface that provides a higher degree of safety, entails little to no annual maintenance and is environmentally friendly. The playground is expected to reopen Monday, August 29. 2017 Budget Update: Millage Rates Remain Unchanged
At their meeting July 21, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners adopted the millage rates that will fund a major portion of the county’s 2017 General Fund budget, Fire District and Bonds. Following three public hearings on the rates, the board voted to maintain the county’s millage rates with no change. The county’s millage rate of 8.036 is one of the lowest millage rates among metro Atlanta counties.   Forsyth County staff, Finance Committee and Board of Commissioners will continue preparing the county’s proposed 2017 budget, which is slated for adoption in November.
