The National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) has recognized the Forsyth County Fire Department 2014 Annual Report, the county’s new website and the county’s recent branding initiative and new logo. All three projects garnered accolades through the 2016 NACIO Awards of Excellence.   The Forsyth County Fire Department 2014 Annual Report received the award of Meritorious in the competition’s annual reports category. Citizens are invited to attend a public information open house on December 13, to learn more about a proposed project to widen SR 369 and upgrade the intersection of SR 369 and SR 400. The open house will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 13, at Coal Mountain Elementary School located at 3455 Coal Mountain Drive in Cumming. Updated Nov. 17, 2016: The contractor is scheduled to have all paving on McFarland Parkway between McGinnis Ferry Road and Union Hill Road completed by the end of this week. Work will continue on the remaining section of McFarland Parkway - between Union Hill Road and SR 9 - which is scheduled to be completed during the week of November 28. Nov. 15, 2016: Resurfacing is underway on McFarland Parkway from SR 9 to McGinnis Ferry Road, and the work is expected to be completed before Thanksgiving. Eagle’s Beak Park Phase I will feature a canoe and kayak river launch and nature trails   Northwest Forsyth County will be home to a new passive park, for which ground was broken Tuesday, November 15. Smoky Conditions Continue
Smoky conditions continue throughout the county, the result of shifting winds which are blowing smoke from fires in the northwest part of the state into our area. Please know that the Forsyth County Fire Department is aware of and monitoring the situation. As always, if you see active flames please call 911.   As a reminder, there is currently a total ban on outdoor burning in Forsyth County. No outdoor burning is allowed due to the drought conditions.

The Forsyth County 911 Center has received multiple reports of smoky conditions throughout the county. Please be assured that this is not being caused by a fire in the county. Rather, the National Weather Service and Georgia Forestry Commission have confirmed that it is the result of shifting winds which are blowing smoke from fires in the northwest part of the state into our area.
