Forsyth County is continually working to improve our roads. At their July 12 work session, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners heard a status update on the many transportation projects underway – funded thanks to the voter-approved Transportation Bond and SPLOST sales tax programs. Attention Big Creek Greenway enthusiasts – here are a few updates on the Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County. Work is continuing on Phase 4, which will extend the multi-use trail approximately 2.8 miles. This new phase will begin at the Bethelview Road trailhead and continue along Big Creek, then run parallel to Kelly Mill Road and end at Johnson Road. While this project has experienced some weather and redesign delays, we are looking forward to opening this new section soon. Fire Department Offers Fireworks Safety Tips in Time for Independence Day Celebrations
Sixty-seven percent of fireworks injuries in 2014 occurred in the month around Independence Day   The Forsyth County Fire Department reminds citizens this Independence Day to practice safe handling of fireworks and to be alert while observing fireworks displays.   “Fireworks displays are synonymous with Independence Day celebrations, but they are also very unpredictable, and accidents and injuries can occur without much warning,” said Fire Chief Danny Bowman. “The best way to avoid injury is to remain alert and leave the fireworks displays to trained professionals.”   According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 230 people on average go to the emergency room ...

Property Tax Rates Expected to Remain Unchanged; Increase in Tax Dollars from Growth in Tax Digest
Three public hearings to allow for public input   June 29, 2016: The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners today announces its intention to maintain the county’s millage rates currently in place with no change and, due to the growth in the tax digest, increase the property taxes it will levy this year by 1.89% over the rollback millage rate.   The proposed county Maintenance & Operations rate remains unchanged at 4.642 mills. The proposed Fire rate remains unchanged at 1.975 mills. The proposed Bond rate remains unchanged at 1.419 mills. Forsyth County continues to be recognized as StormReady®   The National Weather Service (NWS) has re-recognized Forsyth County as a StormReady® Community, a designation reflecting the county’s high level of severe weather preparedness. Forsyth County was first recognized as a StormReady® Community in 2007 and is currently one of 94 counties in Georgia to have earned this recognition.   To be deemed StormReady®, a community must meet criteria established jointly between the NWS and state and local emergency management officials, including having a local 24-hour warning point and an Emergency Operations Center, having more than one way to receive severe weather warnings ...
