Safety event in its ninth year Local families are invited to the county’s ninth annual Trunk or Treat Safety Event. County Manager Eric Johnson has appointed Division Chief Barry Head to serve as interim fire chief effective Oct. 17, following the retirement of Fire Chief Danny Bowman.  Bowman is retiring Oct. 16, after 50 years in fire services. Bowman has been with Forsyth County since 2001. Chief Head has protected Forsyth County for over 25 years. He began his service in 1990 as a dispatcher in the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Safe Kids Forsyth and the Forsyth County Fire Department are partnering during Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 23-29) to help ensure children are riding safely throughout the year. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, Safe Kids Forsyth will host a free car seat checkup event at Old Navy (2255 Market Pl. Grant to assist in funding the hiring of 12 firefighters  The Forsyth County Fire Department has been awarded a grant from the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA to support the staff cost for a new fire station in the western portion of the county. Grant awarded by Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation The Forsyth County Fire Department will have additional equipment for their rescue personnel, thanks to a grant they received from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
