Fleetwood Drive Closed to Through Traffic Until May 19
A portion of Fleetwood Dr. will be temporarily closed to through traffic until Tuesday, May 19, to allow for the construction of a barrier wall and grade change. The road will be closed between the Pilgrim Mill Rd./Fleetwood Dr. intersection and the Fleetwood Dr./Century Dr. intersection. A detour will be available along Century Dr. and Pilgrim Mill Rd. Signs will be in place providing directions for drivers on Fleetwood Dr., Pilgrim Mill Rd. and Century Dr. during the closure. Forsyth County Expands and Upgrades Water Facilities
The Forsyth County Water and Sewer Department has recently completed upgrades and expansions to a water reclamation facility (WRF) and is in the process expanding and finalizing upgrades at another facility. System improvements were recently completed at the James Creek WRF, including those that would influence reliability and redundancy. These upgrades followed a project in 2018 that increased the facility’s capacity from 1 million gallons per day (MGD) to 2.5 MGD. Recommendations to be presented Jan. 22 for public feedback Forsyth County will host an open house to gather feedback from residents, business owners and property owners on south Forsyth’s commercial design standards and branding proposal.   The open house will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Sharon Forks Public Library (2820 Old Atlanta Rd.). Free hands-on program educates residents about fire services   Now in its seventh year, the 10-week Forsyth County Fire Department Citizens’ Fire Academy offers participants an inside look at the profession of firefighting. Update on Asphalt Plant Public Hearing: During the Dec. 19, 2019 meeting, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners voted to terminate the county-initiated Conditional Use Permit (CUP) request for an asphalt plant in SE Forsyth. However, because of the timing of the publication of the agenda for the Jan. 9, 2020 meeting, the public hearing for this CUP (CP190040) still appears on the Jan. 9 agenda. Flags Flying at Half-Staff in Honor of Forsyth County Firefighter Larry Mitro
As a mark of respect for Forsyth County Firefighter Larry Mitro, flags at county fire stations are flying at half-staff until sunset on Monday, Dec. 30. Firefighter Mitro has been with the county’s Fire Department since 1998 and was one of the county’s first 30 fulltime firefighters. Mitro passed away on Christmas morning following a battle with cancer.
