During the May 19, 2016 meeting of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, tribute was paid to honor the three line-of-duty deaths the Forsyth County Fire Department has experienced since its inception. Roads renamed as a way to memorialize and honor Allyn Lane, Dennis C. Martin and Brant Chesney were the focus of a presentation during the meeting. As a way to honor four Forsyth County public safety personnel who fell in the line of duty, the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recently approved the renaming of four roads – two memorializing fallen deputies and two memorializing fallen firefighters.   Today, two of those roads were officially dedicated. Sections of North Old Atlanta Road have been renamed for Deputy Bill Cantrell and Reserve Deputy Larry Mulkey, who were shot and killed in 1972 after being abducted during a traffic stop.
