Forsyth County Sign Ordinance

The Forsyth County Sign Ordinance seeks to promote and ensure the aesthetics of the county and help communities maintain their scenic heritage and unique character. Regulations encourage creative and well-designed signs that contribute in a positive way to the county's visual environment and are in the interest of businesses as they avoid instances of diminishing return where individual business signs are not adequately visible due to unregulated competition.

  • Sign Permit Review Application: For paper submittals your sign design review application will be reviewed and approved by the Development Inspections Division for compliance with the Sign Ordinance and Unified Development Code, your permit will be separately issued by the Permitting Division of Building and Economic Development. The review fee must be submitted with the initial sign review application. A separate application is required for each sign. It is a two (2) step process and both steps must be completed to successfully obtain a valid sign permit. The permit fee is then due upon collection of the building permit for the sign.  Staff encourages you to utilize the digital plan submittal process , please see the CSS Customer Portal to apply for a sign design review and permit.
