Forsyth County Sign Ordinance

The Forsyth County Sign Ordinance seeks to promote and ensure the aesthetics of the county and help communities maintain their scenic heritage and unique character. Regulations encourage creative and well-designed signs that contribute in a positive way to the county's visual environment and are in the interest of businesses as they avoid instances of diminishing return where individual business signs are not adequately visible due to unregulated competition.

  • Sign Permit Review Application: Be aware that your sign permit application will be reviewed and approved by the Current Planning Division for compliance with the Sign Ordinance and Unified Development Code, but your permit will be separately issued by the Building Permit Division. The review fee must be submitted with the initial sign review application. A separate application is required for each sign. It is a two (2) step process and both steps must be completed in order to successfully obtain a valid sign permit. The permit fee is then due upon collection of the building permit for the sign.
