The County Administrative Offices are currently open on an appointment basis.

Animal Shelter

Effective on June 2, 2020: Forsyth County Animal Shelter (FCAS) is re-opened for limited essential services. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shelter has temporarily suspended walk-in visitors in order to maintain and follow CDC safe social distancing and hand hygiene guidelines.


·      - Adoptions will be virtual and handled by appointment only. Please contact FCAS at 678.965.7185 Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am – 5:00pm or email animalshelterinfo@forsythco.com for more information about adoptions. Adoptions are on a first-come/first-served basis.

·      - Owner Surrenders will be handled by appointment only. Please contact FCAS at 678.965.7185 Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am – 5:00pm or email animalshelterinfo@forsythco.com for more information about surrendering your pet.

·      - If you have found a stray animal in Forsyth County, Georgia, you can bring the stray animal to FCAS, located at 4065 County Way, Cumming, GA, Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. We highly recommend for your safety and the safety of the staff at FCAS, residents in Forsyth County should contact Animal Services about a stray animal that they have found. Animal Services can be contacted at 770.781.2138, Monday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Animal Services does not respond to stray animals after hours unless it is injured, aggressive, sick or has bitten someone. If you have an animal that meets the criteria for after-hours response, please call the non-emergency number at 770.781.3087. Animal Services does not respond to feral cats.

·      - Kittens are not normally abandoned by their mothers so if a litter is found, the shelter encourages residents to leave the kittens where they are as their mother is probably nearby and will likely return. If they appear sick, injured or in immediate danger please call the shelter for instructions and best practices. For more information about kittens, please read our “Animal Shelter Kitten Guide” at the bottom of this page.

·      - Residents who have lost a pet are encouraged to check the Lost & Found page on the shelter’s website. Shelter staff is available to reunite lost animals with their families by appointment only. To make an appointment to be reunited with a lost pet or speak to a shelter representative regarding your lost pet, please call 678.965.7185 Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am – 5:00pm

Forsyth County Animal Shelter is following all guidance provided by the CDC and the National Animal Control Association in response to COVID 19.


Board of Assessors

The Administration Building (110 E. Main Street, Cumming) is currently open to residents, on a appointment and digital waistlist basis. To make an appointment with the Tax Assessor's office please visit: https://www.forsythco.com/appointments

Board of Commissioners

The Thursday night Forsyth County Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting/Public Hearings will be held with a quorum of the Board physically assembled at 5 p.m. 

The public may physically attend this meeting. However due to COVID 19 concerns, remote viewing and participation is encouraged. Remote viewing is available on the County’s website (forsythco.com).
Information for remote participation will be made available in the banner on the County’s website (forsythco.com).

Please note that only one individual per party will be allowed in the Business License Department.  Please bring cash in the exact payment amount.  

The following temporary exemptions are in effect: 
Occupational Tax Penalties are waived through September 10
Employee Alcohol Permitting suspended through September 10
Restaurants ability to sell to-go beer & wine though September 10 

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is open by appointment only and is processing applicants for fingerprinting services and background checks for solicitor’s permits. 

Code Compliance

The Code Compliance office (4057 County Way, Cumming) is closed to the public until further notice.

Following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Forsyth County, the county has established a hotline for residents to report price gouging. Residents can call 678-965-7202 to report price gouging. Callers can leave a voice message and a county representative will return your call. 

Communications

Board of Commissioners work sessions are currently being conducted remote and can be viewed either through live streaming of TV Forsyth on the home page or on cable television (Comcast channel 23 and AT&T channel 99).  

Board of Commissioner Regular Meetings/Public Hearings are conducted in person (with a physical quorum of the board present), with a teleconference option available for residents who would prefer to participate remote. Emergency Management Agency

Finance

The Finance Department is currently open on an appointment-only basis.

Fire Department

Public visits to Fire Department facilities are limited to emergencies.  Tours and other non-emergency visits are not available at this time.

Child safety seat training/installations and smoke alarm training/installations are limited to cases of dire need or emergencies.

The Citizens' Fire Academy and Fire Explorers programs have been cancelled until further notice.

The GIS Department is currently open on an appointment-only basis.

Libraries

All branches of the Forsyth County Public Library are open with adjusted operating hours.

The Cumming, Hampton Park, Post Road, and Sharon Forks libraries will be open to the public Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturdays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. so that patrons may browse and select their own reading materials or use the public computers. Parks & Recreation

Please follow CDC Guidance for Visiting Park and Recreational Areas when visiting a Forsyth County park.

Updated July 2, 2020

Effective July 1, all recreation center hours of operation will be Monday-Thursday, 7am-9pm, Friday 7am-6pm, Saturday 8:30am-6pm,, and remain closed on Sundays. The indoor walking track, cardio/weight rooms and gymnasiums will be open for those with a membership and will have a limited capacity. The gymnasiums will be available for basketball shooting, pickleball and badminton. Recreation center memberships will be extended upon request. 

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation will continue to follow CDC guidelines regarding cleaning and disinfecting along with state guidelines for social distancing and capacity. As part of the reopening protocol, staff will screen all customers prior to entering any indoor facilities, and social distancing will be enforced.  

All outdoor park areas, playgrounds and trails are now open as well as Sawnee Mountain Preserve. Outdoor Athletic Games and Tournaments started June 15 with social distancing requirements along with operational restrictions to be implemented. All indoor recreation programs will resume on July 1, in accordance to social distancing restrictions.

All Rezoning, Conditional Use Permit, Sketch Plat and Home Occupation Permit applications must be submitted via email to ldsilas@forsythco.com. Please include the tax map/parcel(s) or address of the property in the subject line of the email. All Zoning Condition Amendment applications must be submitted via email to mapryor@forsythco.com.

Procurement

The Procurement Department is currently open on an appointment-only basis.

Please note:  

Due to the current circumstances surrounding the Covid-19 response we understand that business closings and social distancing have made it very difficult for potential bidders to locate a Notary Public to Notarize our bid documents. In order to alleviate some of the concern surrounding the Notary requirement Forsyth County will accept a copy of the bidder’s drivers license in lieu of notarization of the documents, in cases where a notary can not be located, for all Forsyth County solicitations that are due on or before August 30, 2020.    

The Procurement Office will be accepting solicitations at our office, 514 West Maple St., Suite 104, as stated within the solicitation documents. 

Due to the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 response until August 30, 2020 all Bid/Solicitation openings will be conducted via Zoom Meeting; the bids will be opened live in the Procurement Department and all interested parties are invited to participate via Zoom. Directions for each Bid /Solicitation opening will be posted by Bid Opening Information on the Bids & Results page under the Procurement Department.

Recycling & Solid Waste

The three Forsyth County recycling and convenience centers are currently open for regular hours and are able to accept batteries, paint, electronics or tires. Fees may apply. For guidance on how to prepare batteries for recycling, click here. 

Thank you for remembering to use our recycling centers. When visiting our recycling centers, please remember we are only able to accept bagged household trash and specific recyclables. Centers are unable to accept mattresses/box springs, furniture, appliances, mirrors, construction materials, rugs, other items that do not fit into a 32-gallon trash bag or yard waste such as grass clippings or branches. Sheriff's Office

In response to COVID-19, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) has made the following changes to their operations:

Temporary suspension of select community courses and programs such as S.A.L.T., Women’s Self Defense Classes, and others. These programs will gradually begin again as locations become available, following appropriate COVID safety precautions

Fingerprinting and background checks for alcohol permits, alcohol licenses, firearm licenses, Door to Door Peddlers and Solicitors, etc. by FCSO Ordinance and Permits Unit is now open with appropriate COVID safety precautions.  Appointments are strongly encouraged (770-781-2105), and preference is given to individuals with appointments.  

Lobbies at the Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, Precincts, and Jail are now open, with COVID protocols in place for all visitors.  

Temporary suspension of outside organization programs at the jail (GED classes, religious organization). Family visitation for inmates is limited. 

FCSO continues to respond to calls for service.  For non-emergency incidents, please use the Sheriff to Citizen portal

Voter Registrations & Elections

The Voter Registrations & Elections Office (1201 Sawnee Dr.) is open.
