"This morning we received confirmation from public health that there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Forsyth County. We are keeping this individual, their family and those caring for the individual in our thoughts and prayers. At the County, we continue to follow the most up-to-date guidance from our local public health department, the state Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We encourage our residents to do the same. Through our Emergency Management Agency, we continue to work in conjunction with partner agencies to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and how it may affect our residents and employees. We will be providing updated information regarding any impacts to County facilities and services on our website."

The county is postponing all non-essential meetings and activities. The Board of Commissioners will continue to have its regular meetings and public hearings, as well as meetings that are required due to ordinance processes. Monthly meetings by various boards, commissions and authorities are under review. 

Animal Shelter

 Effective at the end of business on April 3, 2020: Until further notice, the Forsyth County Animal Shelter (4065 County Way, Cumming) will be closed. All pet adoptions are suspended. Staff will continue to care for the animals that are at the shelter.  Residents who have lost a pet are encouraged to check the Lost & Found pages on the Animal Shelter's page.  Shelter staff is available to reunite lost animals with their families by appointment only.  The shelter will not be accepting owner surrenders. If you have found a stray animal please call Animal Services at 770-781-2138. To make an appointment to be reunited with a lost pet or speak to a shelter representative regarding your lost pet please call (678) 965-7185. 

April 22, 2020: The Forsyth County Animal Shelter has created a document answering common questions about their COVID-19 operations and how you can still help animals in need through fostering, turning in a stray, finding a lost pet and more.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING HOMESTEAD AND PERSONAL PROPERTY FILINGS

For residents wishing to file for a Homestead Exemption prior to the April 1, 2020 deadline, the Forsyth County Board of Assessors has placed a drop box outside of the County Administration Building (110 E. Main Street) on the north side of the building at the entrance nearest the parking deck. Both Homestead Exemption applications and Personal Property reporting forms may be placed in the box and will be collected by county staff.

For all Homestead Exemption filings, please attach a copy of the applicant’s current driver’s license. Homestead Exemption applications are required to be notarized, however, if an applicant cannot get their application notarized, please sign and date the application before placing it in the drop box provided.

Business License

The Administration Building (110 E. Main Street, Cumming) is closed to the public until further notice. 

Update 3/27: An Emergency Declaration of Local Emergency regarding Occupational Taxes was signed on March 27, 2020 by Chairman Semanson. The Declaration waives penalties and fines related to the late payment of Occupation Taxes by an existing business; or the late registration and payment of Occupation Taxes by a new business.  This Declaration will remain in effect until the locally declared emergency is lifted.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Ordinance and Permits Unit has temporarily suspended all background checks for Door to Door Peddlers and Solicitors effective March 17. Enforcement of this ordinance shall remain active by FCSO.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office has suspended fingerprinting and background checks for alcohol permits effective Tuesday, March 17. Due to the suspension, the Forsyth County Business License Department will be unable to process Alcohol Sales Permits until further notice.

The Chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners signed an Emergency Declaration regarding alcohol sales permits.  This Declaration temporarily exempts new employees and current employees from obtaining /renewing an alcohol sales permit.  Once the local emergency has been lifted employees will be required to obtain a valid alcohol sales permit


Code Compliance

The Code Compliance office (4057 County Way, Cumming) is closed to the public until further notice.

Following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Forsyth County, the county has established a hotline for residents to report price gouging. Residents can call 678-965-7202 to report price gouging. Callers can leave a voice message and a county representative will return your call. 

Communications

The Administration Building (110 E. Main Street, Cumming) is closed to the public until further noticeResidents can view BOC work sessions and meetings either through live streaming of TV Forsyth  on the home page or on cable television (Comcast channel 23 and AT&T channel 99).

Fire Department

Public visits to Fire Department facilities are limited to emergencies.  Tours and other non-emergency visits are not available at this time.

Child safety seat training/installations and smoke alarm training/installations are limited to cases of dire need or emergencies.

The Citizens' Fire Academy and Fire Explorers programs have been cancelled until further notice.

All Forsyth County Public Library locations will be closed until further notice. 

All Forsyth County libraries have reinstated book returns through drop boxes outside each building. Contact-free curbside pickups for new checkouts will be available beginning May 11. Find more information here.

Procurement

The Procurement office (514 West Maple St., Suite 104, Cumming) is closed to the public until further notice.

Please note:  

Due to the current circumstances surrounding the Covid-19 response we understand that business closings and social distancing have made it very difficult for potential bidders to locate a Notary Public to Notarize our bid documents.  In order to alleviate some of the concern surrounding the Notary requirement Forsyth County will accept a copy of the bidder’s drivers license in lieu of notarization of the documents, in cases where a notary can not be located, for all Forsyth County solicitations that are due on or before May 31, 2020.    

The Procurement Office will be accepting solicitations at our office, 514 West Maple St., Suite 104, as stated within the solicitation documents. 

Due to the current circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 response until May 31, 2020 all Bid/Solicitation openings will be conducted via GoToMeeting; the bids will be opened live and all interested parties are invited to participate. Directions for each Bid /Solicitation opening will be posted by Addendum on the Bids & Results page under the Procurement Department.

Recycling & Solid Waste

Update 3/30: Thank you for remembering to use our recycling centers. When visiting our recycling centers, please remember we are only able to accept bagged household trash and specific recyclables. Centers are unable to accept mattresses/box springs, furniture, appliances, mirrors, construction materials, rugs, other items that do not fit into a 32-gallon trash bag or yard waste such as grass clippings or branches. A list of accepted items is found hereThank you for your cooperation.

The three Forsyth County recycling and convenience centers are currently open for regular hours. Until further notice, the centers are unable to accept batteries, paint, electronics or tires. Thank you for your cooperation. 

The Great FoCo Cleanup, scheduled for March 21, has been postponed.

Senior Services

The following centers will be closed until further notice:

Due to risks surrounding COVID-19, the annual Senior Expo, scheduled for April 18, has been cancelled. Senior Services plans to hold the next Senior Expo on March 27, 2021.

 

Sheriff's Office

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) will be making the following changes to their operations:

Temporary suspension of community courses such as Citizens Law Enforcement Academy, Women’s Self Defense Classes and others.

Temporary suspension of fingerprinting and background checks for alcohol permits, alcohol licenses, firearm licenses, etc. by FCSO Ordinance and Permits Unit.  

Sheriff’s Office Headquarters and Precincts are temporarily closed, but the Jail lobby will remain open. 

Temporary suspension of outside organization programs at the jail (GED classes, religious organization) and family visitation for inmates. 

Temporary suspension of background checks for Door to Door Peddlers and Solicitors by FSCO Ordinance and Permits Unit.  Enforcement of this ordinance shall remain active by FCSO. 

Following the declaration of a State of Emergency in Forsyth County, the county has established a hotline for residents to report price gouging. Residents can call 678-965-7202 to report price gouging. Callers can leave a voice message and a county representative will return your call.

FCSO will continue to respond to calls for service.  For non-emergency incidents, please use the Sheriff to Citizen portal
