8/24/2012 - Board of Voter Registrations and Elections

The August 24, 2012 meeting was called to order at 4:01pm. Members present were Donald Glover and Matt Blender. Douglas Sorrells was on vacation. Barbara Luth, Mandi Smith and Kris Smith were also present.

The board members reviewed the list of provisional ballots presented by the staff. Barb gave an explanation as to why we would accept a provisional that was voted out of precinct.

Matt made a motion to accept the provisional ballots for Christopher Edwards, Jason Chambers, Jimmy Teasley and Georgiannah McBrayer who were eligible to vote, but voted out of their precinct. The motion was seconded by Donald and both Donald and Matt voted to accept the provisional ballots for these four voters. The ballots were duplicated using ballots from their right precincts.

Matt made a motion to reject the provisional ballots for Paul Walkin, who did not provide photo ID before the deadline; Candace Bailey who was deleted in 2011 for an invalid address; Cameron Patrick who was deleted in 2007 for no activity for 2 General Elections; and Richard Moseman, who was ineligible to vote in the Primary Runoff as he voted a Democratic Ballot in the July 31 Primary. The motion was seconded by Donald and both Donald a Matt voted to reject the provisional ballots for these four voters.

The staff asked for a decision of the board on the UOCAVA ballot postmarked August 22nd coming from Fayetteville, North Carolina from Sarah Elizabeth Bergstrom. Matt made a motion to reject the ballot from Sarah Elizabeth Bergstrom as is was postmarked after the day of the election. The motion was seconded by Donald and both Donald and Matt voted to reject the ballot of Sarah Elizabeth Bergstrom.

The meeting was suspended at 4:13pm in order to run the ballots that had been accepted and duplicated through the optical scan reader.

The meeting was resumed at 4:31pm to review the results of the election. Donald made a motion to certify the results of the Primary Runoff Election for the local races. Matt seconded the motion and both Donald and Matt voted to certify the results of the Primary Runoff Election for the local races.

Matt made a motion to adjourn the meeting; seconded by Donald the vote was unanimous of the members present to adjourn the meeting at 4:32pm
