Forsyth County Parks and Recreation’s Outdoor Division offers many activities in May
The weather is warmer and the days are longer. It’s a great time to step outside and step into an adventure. In May, the Forsyth County Park and Recreation’s Outdoor Division will offer many activities.
Introduction to Tree Climbing
Activity 261520-E: Saturday, May 15; 2 to 5 p.m.; ages 8 and up; $30 for county residents and $35 for non-county residents
Climbing a tree can provide fun and a great workout for the entire family. Climbers will be given instruction and guidance while climbing trees at the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Visitor Center (SMPVC). All equipment will be provided.
Breakfast with the Birds Activity 267520-C: Saturday, May 8; 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.; ages 6 and up*

*The cost is $3 for county residents and $3.60 for non-county residents.
View spring songbirds from the comfort of a rocking chair on the relaxing porch at the SMPVC. Coffee and donuts will be provided. Bring your binoculars and field guides if you have them. A limited supply of binoculars and field guides will be available to borrow. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Nature Night for Kids at the SMPVC Activity 264520-B: Saturday, May 15; 5 to 10 p.m.; ages 6 and up; $25 for county residents and $30 for non-county residents
Children will participate in an evening of nature and science activities, eat pizza and watch a movie at the SMPVC.
Big Creek Greenway Bird Walk Activity 262121-A: Saturday, May 15; 8 to 9 a.m.; ages 6 and up*
Activity 262121-B: Saturday, May 22; 8 to 9 a.m.; ages 6 and up*

Join a naturalist on a guided hike along the Big Creek Greenway in Forsyth County to greet spring migration. Field guides and binoculars are recommended, and a few pairs will be available to borrow. Meet at the Bethelview Road trail head for the Big Creek Greenway, located at 5120 Bethelview Road. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Nature Tales: Grandparent/Grandchild Nature Programs Activity 268220-B: Saturday, May 22; 1 to 2 p.m.; $6 for county residents and $7.20 for non-county residents
Nature Tales is geared toward children between ages 3 and 5. The program will be a time for children and their grandparents to learn about nature together and will feature a story, nature craft activities and a walk. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.
The SMPVC is located at 4075 Spot Road in Cumming. Pre-registration is required for all programs.
