New Display Terminals Designed to Improve Visitor Flow at Forsyth County Courthouse

Edward Byrne Memorial Grant provides full funding for display terminals

Approximately 2,500 to 4,000 people enter the front doors of the Forsyth County Courthouse each week. To improve the flow of these visitors, the Bell-Forsyth Judicial Circuit received an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant of $19,585 for the purchase of Infax display terminals.

Similar to airport display terminals, the Infax display terminals show a daily listing of State and Superior Court case names, case numbers, courtroom numbers and times. The Infax system can hold up to 300 court cases.

The display terminals are designed to improve the courthouse traffic flow, reduce the time it takes to create court dockets and reduce the amount of paper used to produce court dockets. Two monitors are located on the first floor of the courthouse directly across from the elevators, and one monitor is located on the second floor directly across from the elevators.

Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grants fund projects addressing crime through the provision of services directly to communities and by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the criminal justice systems. The $19,585 grant received by Forsyth County included the Infax system, three monitors, cabling and installation, and required no matching funds from the county.

“When we found out grant money was available for technology, we wanted to utilize it to help with the congestion at the courthouse,” Circuit Court Administrator Dawn Childress said. “The case names, numbers and locations were not previously posted in the courthouse. I had seen the display terminals in other counties and at court conferences. They assist visitors in knowing where to go without asking the deputies at the front door.”

The Forsyth County Courthouse is located at 100 Courthouse Square in downtown Cumming.
